MARINA DEL REY, Calif. (KABC) -- A luxury yacht docked at a Marina del Rey harbor sank Sunday morning after fire gutted its interior despite several hours of firefighting efforts.
The fire broke out around 2 a.m. near the 4400 block of Admiralty Way. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters said the blaze was stubborn and hard to control. Marina del Rey Fire Department fireboats battled the flames but were unable to keep the yacht from sinking. The yacht eventually capsized and sank in the harbor.
There were no reports of any injuries. Firefighters said the yacht was unoccupied. The boat's owner estimated the loss at $4 million.
The U.S. Coast Guard is assisting with the investigation. The cause of the fire is unknown.
